Story

Already one of the biggest humanitarian crises of our time, the effects of COVID19, including a lack of international aid support and difficulties delivering physical aid, means millions are at risk of dying.

Over 3.6 million Yeminis have been forced to flee their homes since the conflict started, the majority of who are now living in makeshift shelters, tents, repurposed public buildings or basic temporary accommodation. Many face desperate conditions and struggle to survive as they search for safety, shelter and emergency aid. 80% of people live below the poverty line and 24 million people need some type of aid, out of a country of 28.5 million .

During this enormously challenging time, UNHCR is continuing to deliver PPE and provide training to staff, but importantly is also expanding the Emergency Coronavirus payments programme, delivering one-off-cash grants to the most vulnerable families to pay for shelter, food or medicine. Emergency coronavirus payment criteria prioritises the most vulnerable people including: female and child-headed households , people living with disabilities , unaccompanied elderly people , children-at-risk , individuals with severe or chronic medical conditions.

Last year, with your generous support, UNHCR helped 1.2 million Yemenis through these types of payments, and have already helped 70,000 families since Coronavirus hit but we need you to reach many more and avoid a catastrophe from unfolding. Join us in the fight to help some of the most vulnerable families forced to flee.
