Visit the charity's profileChange for Good Community Chaplaincy Ltd (CfG), a registered charity since 2012 and Company Limited by Guarantee, is a volunteer mentoring charity that supports prison-leavers as they resettle in the community before and after release. Supporting prisoners from HMPs Wandsworth, Wormwood Scrubs, Brixton and Ford, we do this through expert staff support, volunteer mentoring, advocacy and our peer support project Next Chapter. Our mission is to empower those leaving prison and resettling in London to transform their lives through mentoring, advocacy, and peer support.
Many of those we support leave prison with nothing other than the daunting prospect of starting again.
WHEN I WENT TO PRISON, I WAS EXCOMMUNICATED FROM MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS, HAD NO HOUSING OR FUTURE PROSPECTS. WHAT I GAINED FROM NEXT CHAPTER WAS MORE THAN JUST PRACTICAL SUPPORT, IT WAS FAMILY.
The Walk Beyond Bars was conceptualised in our Next Chapter support group, made up of members who have all experienced what it is like to leave prison and transition to a life in the community. Members, volunteers and friends of CfG will take part in a sponsored relay walk of 21 miles, past London prisons to highlight the stories of prison leavers and raise funds for the vital work of the charity.
