Story
Nkuringo Education and Community Support is a small UK based charity supporting an amazing community in SW Uganda. We have many people who sponsor children through their education, but to keep the cost of sponsorship down, making it accessible to as many people as possible, the fees only cover the education. Most of the children board as it is a remote rural community and the children’s homes are too far away to travel daily. It costs an additional £60 a year to feed each child at school, even with the local community donating food and the children growing their own vegetables. It’s not a huge amount but, when you have over 350 mouths to feed, it soon mounts up.
Some of our sponsors do donate to the food fund as well as covering the child’s education. However, so far this year we are £10,000 short of all the funds we need to feed all the children. That’s why I’m putting on my walking boots, pulling in favours from some lovely friends around the country and attempting to raise the money to cover the shortfall. With your help and support I’m hoping I can do it. You can track my progress on instagram (jackie.c.knight), although I’m hoping to place updates here as well. I’m aiming to start in the Mendips in Somerset on Saturday, 19th October and finishing in Cambridge on Monday, 28th October.
The good news is that every penny you donate goes out to the community in Uganda as the charity is run entirely by volunteers. No admin costs for the charity - that’s good to know.
I would really appreciate anything you can give and if you could pass this onto anyone who may also want to help.
Thank you for making my miles turn into smiles!
