In light of this support we have increased our target to £12,000, which will allow even more people facing fuel poverty in Shropshire to access grants enabling them to have a warmer winter.

Could you help people in Shropshire who are facing fuel poverty this winter?

A household is considered to be fuel poor if they live in a property with low energy efficiency and would be pushed below the poverty line by housing costs and the energy bills needed to live in a warm, well-lit home.

Figures have shown that more than 23,000 people in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin are living in fuel poverty and are at risk of illness this winter; higher than the UK average.

We hear from people who are so stressed about their winter fuel bills that they live in a constant state of anxiety; they have no choice but to stay in a cold, damp home.

This year more people will be forced to choose between heating and eating in the coldest months.

We will use any money donated to work with local referral agencies to identify people who are most in need of help and provide them with grants of up to £150 as well as energy saving measures such as draft excluders, so that this year and subsequent winters to come, keeping warm will be more affordable.

Your support will have a direct impact on someones life in Shropshire; helping them to have a warmer winter.

Since the launch of the scheme 10 years ago we have helped over 150 households and we anticipate that 2021 will see a huge rise in demand for our help as people continue to tackle the effects of Covid19 and face higher than normal fuel bills.
