Not everyone you pass on the street looks homeless. Some have jobs, some have families — and some have a roof, but not a home. They may be sleeping in a car, staying in a garage, or sofa surfing, trying to hold things together.

It can happen to any of us. A relationship breakdown, illness, job loss, or simply a run of bad luck — and suddenly everything changes.

At Windsor Homeless Project, we meet people at that point. When they walk through our doors at Alma Beacon, often for the first time, they’re not just looking for a hot meal — they’re looking for reassurance, dignity, and someone to listen.

We now open three days a week, offering food, warmth, and support to anyone who needs it. Since moving to Alma Road, we’ve been able to expand what we do even further. In January 2025, we used the new Alma Beacon premises for the first time to deliver More Than a Shelter. Having our own building meant the service could continue after COVID, no longer relying on temporary church spaces. This has allowed us to provide safety, warmth, and stability throughout the harshest months.

But what matters most is what happens next. Working closely with local services, including the RBWM rough sleeper team, we help people take steps forward — whether that’s accessing housing, support, or simply rebuilding confidence.
