Our Story
In 2016 we lost a beloved doctor, mother, sister and friend, Dr Liz Sizer to suicide. Sadly, this is not uncommon - with healthcare professionals recorded as having higher rates of mental health illness when compared to the general population. It's estimated that every 3 weeks a doctor takes their own life in the UK and even more alarming it's reported a nurse takes their life every week.
That's why You Okay, Doc? (YOD) exists - to reduce the stigma associated with mental health in the healthcare population and to reduce the rates of healthcare related suicides. Healthcare workers with the correct support recover and continue to provide the much needed care to our loved ones.
How can you get involved?
Join us in raising funds for this much needed cause that supports those that care for us - whether that's hiking, cycling, baking, playing music or running...the options are endless - you can join this campaign and create your own challenge.
The Yorkshire 3 Peaks
One way a group is fundraising is by taking on the Yorkshire 3 Peak challenge and it's going to be tough! Here's the brief - the challenge will take place from the 2nd-4th August 2024. The team comprising of YOD ambassadors, doctors, friends and family will travel to Yorkshire in preparation to climb the 3 peaks - Pen-yGhent, Whernside and Ingleborough in under 12 hours. Deemed to be a tougher challenge than the national 3 peaks by some, this 38km hike, will be a true measure of stamina, little rest and mountaineering!
Whatever the activity, come and join us we would love to hear from you!
