Batten disease is a group of rare, progressive neurodegenerative, genetic metabolic diseases that occur in children & adults worldwide. The BDFA's Vision is to be the central point of excellence in the UK for supporting affected families funding research into a potential cure.

Story

Batten disease is the main life-limiting neuro-degenerative disease affecting children in the UK.  Children are born apparently healthy before developing seizures, loss of vision and the ability to walk, talk and eat.  Research is currently ongoing but there are no treatments and currently NO CURE.

We are the only UK charity which directly supports families affected by Batten disease and the professionals who work with them.  We also raise awareness to enable us to fund research into potential treatments and ultimately a cure.

We receive no funding from Government and are only able to carry out our work because of the strong commitment of our volunteers and fundraisers.

Together we will make a difference.
