Story
In 2017 it raised a fantastic £740 - enough to help us keep 14 children in school for a year. In 2018, we aim to raise an even better total, as the Zam Challenge returns for its second annual instalment!
The 5-a-side football tournament will once again be hosted by Burford School, and is due to be held on June 29. In last year’s intense competition, a formidable team of the school’s staff edged out the alumni squad and took the trophy. This year, the number of teams has grown from four to six and the matches are sure to be even more exciting than before.
MEET THE TEAMS
Cecily's Fund (Captain: Simon Isherwood)
Joint third in 2017, but top-scorers. Simon's new team is "a mixture of youth and experience", and he believes their chances are good.
Burford School Staff (Captain: Bill Williams)
2017 champions. Bill is confident his team can retain the title. "I rate our chances very high. Underestimate us at your peril!"
The Original Alumni (Captain: Adam Nobbs)
Only goal difference denied the alumni the trophy last year. Can returning captain Adam turn the tables on the staff team?
The New Alumni (Captain: Haydn Parker)
Alumni interest was so strong this year that there are now two teams of ex-students.
Burford School Year 12 (Captain: Jack Allen)
In 2017 the Year 12 team were outclassed and scored only six goals - a whole new team under Jack Allen intend to do much better.
Wenn Townsend F.C. (Captain: Jonathan Best)
Only sponsors last year, Wenn Townsend Chartered Accountants are in on the action in 2018 with a team of their own.
