Child sacrifice is a growing problem in Uganda. Due to gaps in existing legislation and a lack of child protection resource at community level, this devastating practice is not being effectively addressed. Children on the Edge are currently working towards the passing of a Prevention of Human Sacrifice and Harmful Practices Bill 2016. This will specifically address the issue of child sacrifice, covering the gaps in current legislation.

Lasting change is only brought about when there is a protective legal framework in place and when there is a protective environment at grassroots community level. Consequently, alongside our advocacy work on the Bill we will be focussing on scaling up a tried and tested Child Protection Team model which has prevented the practice of child sacrifice, across communities in Uganda that have the highest prevalence of incidents.
