Story
Christ Church is a small primary school with big ideas for outdoor learning. We are in a forbidding urban environment in the heart of Battersea and many of our pupils do not have a garden.
This new garden will literally offer a breath of fresh air to relieve pressure from the confinements of the classroom, and space and freedom for children to move around and discover through nature so that they can engage and connect with their environment.
Pupils who struggle to stay focused in class focus more easily outside. In recent years the head teacher and staff have developed an innovative approach to outdoor learning that enhances children’s understanding of science, environmental study, mathematics, language development, writing and the visual arts and most importantly that cares for their spiritual, mental, emotional development and physical well-being. Cultivating kindness and respect for all life encourages our young people to take responsibility for nurturing and shaping their environment.
Our school community is transforming derelict outdoor land into beautiful spaces where pupils thrive and grow- right in the midst of our inner-city concrete ‘jungle’.
With the guidance of Chelsea Gold Medal Garden Designer Cleve West, children have created a garden design that they will build and care for with your help.
Your donation will help make our plans a reality to create an eco-friendly area providing natural habitats and growing spaces for fruit and vegetables so that our children can learn about healthy eating. Please help us to make a better place for our children.
