The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust inspires young people aged 8-24 to believe in a brighter future living through and beyond cancer. For many young people simply picking up where they left off before their diagnosis just isn’t possible. So, when treatment ends the Trust’s work begins.

Why? Bestival curator Rob da Bank is a proud ambassador of the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust, a national charity that supports and empowers young people in recovery from cancer through the amazing power of sailing.

When a young person is diagnosed with cancer, life goes on hold just at the time they are starting to form their place in the world.

The impact on independence, education, employment, emotional wellbeing and their relationships with friends and family is huge. Many young people are also left living with a range of long-term physical effects.

The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust uses sailing as a mechanism to help young people rebuild lost confidence to discover a future they might never have thought possible. In a safe, supportive, fun and hands-on environment, deeply personal experiences and worries are shared, often for the first time, friendships are rooted, new skills are learned, physical and mental boundaries are pushed, fears are overcome and being in hospital and on treatment feels like another world away.

You can help a young person realise they are so much more capable than what they think, because whilst cancer changes a young person’s life, we can’t let it define it.

Currently, over 85% of young people diagnosed with cancer go on to survive and for everyone 1 young person the Trust supports, there are 9 we cannot. Yet. Your support can help change that.

So hop on your bike, cycle to Bestival and have an epic time knowing you’ve helped transform the lives of young people in recovery from cancer!
