Story
Did you find a pretty rock in Welwyn Garden City town? What’s is all about you ask?
Well, our wonderful patients who visit our Living Well Day centre, have spent time painting these rocks, with the hope to spread joy and community love throughout Wewlyn Garden City. Whilst also raising awareness and funds for Isabel Hospice.
What do you do now?
Please share a photo and comments on our Facebook page #IsabelRocks and either keep the rock or hide it somewhere in Welwyn Garden City town, for someone else to find! If you have enjoyed finding this cool rock painted by our one patients, then we encourage you to make a donation of size.
This is a simple activity that anyone can take part in, young or old. Please take care and use common sense when hiding or retrieving rocks.
Why is Art Therapy so important and how does it help our patients?
Deborah Hogarth our Art Therapist said “Art Therapy is not about artistic ability and you do not have to be good at art to benefit from it. We encourage an open experimental approach to creativity, suggesting ‘try something new and see what happens’ in response to the oft stated fear, ‘I’m not artistic, I can’t draw a straight line’.
Through the use of art materials within a therapeutic relationship, thoughts and feelings that may be too intense or painful to put into words can be expressed. Paying attention to these feelings often helps patients and family members to realize that they can gain some control and strength to cope with major changes in their lives.
Their artwork becomes the vehicle for the difficult thoughts and feelings and people often wish to keep the work private, for this reason. The aim of Art Therapy support at Isabel Hospice is to offer psychological support through creativity and talking to patients across the service and their families both pre-bereaved and bereaved.”
Thank you for your donation, from the team at Isabel Hospice!
