As one of the largest specialist heart and lung centres in the UK Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital is at the forefront in the battle against these life-changing and life-limiting illnesses.

Our specialist medical teams are at the leading edge of treatments and are renowned for their minimally invasive surgery (where small incisions made using miniaturised surgical instruments) but we are at the absolute limit of patients that we can treat in this way with our current equipment.   We need a surgical robot.

A surgical robot would allow us to double the number of patients receiving minimally invasive surgery in the first 12 months.  It would allow us to provide better care, with less post-operative pain and a shortened recovery time meaning patients can return home to their families and loved ones in days rather than weeks.

For heart surgery this would be the first of its kind in the UK and for lung surgery it would be the first in the North West.
