Story
Christmas is a time for family.
For some families, Christmas will also include a cancer diagnosis, hospital visits, chemotherapy and sadly some families are bereaving the loss of the mother or even their baby. Many women feel alone and isolated. Some worry this might be their last Christmas with loved ones, whilst others may celebrate having another year together.
Mummy’s Star provides support for women diagnosed with cancer during pregnancy or within a year of giving birth.
Amy was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma earlier this year when she was 24 weeks pregnant with their second baby. She immediately began chemotherapy and later gave birth to a beautiful son. Amy hoped they would be celebrating her remission this Christmas. However, the cancer has been treatment resistant and she now is facing 2 cycles of chemotherapy, where she will be in hospital for 5 days at a time in the lead up to Christmas.
She has a loving and caring family around her, but sometimes feels alone. Mummy’s Star were able to offer a home visit, put her in contact with other mums who have had similar experiences and give support when it is needed most.
Amy says 'Being in hospital for my treatment and away from my husband and the children is really hard, especially in the lead up to Christmas'.
Amy's hope is to be at home in time for Christmas with her family.
Please give the 'Gift of Support' this Christmas to families like Amy's
Any gift you can give will help us. A home visit costs around £100. We want to be able to visit more of the mums who contact us. Meeting a mum 'face to face' ensures we can really get to know them and their families, understand their situation better and it allows us to tailor the support to meet the needs of each mum.
Donating will help us to be there for mums like Amy this Christmas.
