Story
We were founded in 2002 and remain a small, voluntary, local organisation. We’re dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming domestic animals and wildlife. For wildlife, we do rescues and first aid before transferring the animal to the West Hatch wildlife hospital for rehab and eventual return to the wild. Injured domestic animals are given all neccesary veterinary treatment and then cared for in our own Special Care Unit, by a dedicated team of over 40 volunteers. they are then either returned to their owner or rehomed by our trustees.
One thing that distinguishes us among UK animal charities is that we’re local and our mission is to care for local animals.
We provide welfare backup and an animal ambulance service for pets, farm animals and wildlife in North Devon. And when we help animals, we usually help humans too. We’re more than just an animal charity, we’re a local animal charity that also benefits local people.
Every penny donated, raised through fundraising or earned by our two charity shops, is spent on the animals. Unlike many animal charities in the UK, none of our volunteers are paid.
This year we need to replace one of our two ambulances, to ensure we can continue to offer an emergency response when animals need us, 7 days a week.
Every Penny really does count and we will be most grateful for your support.
