The All Weather Lifeboat "Sir John Fisher" at Workington has been keeping watch over the treacherous waters of the eastern Irish Sea and the Solway Firth for 25 years. Over this time, the lifeboat has been called out to assist distressed mariners on 276 occasions, has saved 73 lives and brought 324 people safely ashore. However it is now getting old and is in urgent need of replacement.The Workington lifeboat is crewed by dedicated volunteers from all walks of life who give up their time for free and risk their own lives to help save others. Now they need your help to purchase a modern, state of the art, Shannon Class lifeboat so that they can continue to provide this invaluable service. The new Shannon Class lifeboats have a longer range, are fitted with all the most modern lifesaving technology and are much more economical to use. Your donation means that you can save lives in the hazardous seas off the West Cumbrian coast without getting your feet wet.
