Story
In Malawi, people’s harvests are failing for the second season in a row. The number of food insecure in 2016/17 has increased to 6.5 million, up from 2.84 million people in the previous year. November to March will be a critical time for the poorest families in our area until they harvest again and our Christmas campaign will help us support vulnerable families as well as the growing number of nursery children at Shine Village and at the community centres supported by Shine. It costs £15 for a sack of maize which lasts a small family between 4-6 weeks. Our team meets with families regularly to assess their ongoing needs and prioritises the neediest young families for further support. £45 keeps a child at Shine Early Years for one year this includes porridge and fruit every school day.
