Story
Debark Hospital provides medical care to the Simien Mountains in Ethiopia and surrounding areas approximately the size of Belgium with a population of 2.5 million people mostly living in rural, largely inaccessible mountain villages. The doctors in Debark face great difficulties diagnosing emergency patients due to a lack of medical equipment such as a reliable X-ray machine and frequent power cuts.
Ultrasound units are a widely used tool in emergency medicine in developing countries. They can easily diagnose major emergencies such as internal bleedings etc. An ultrasound is portable and can be done on the spot and independently from power supply.
SMMMS provides medical and maternal services to the mountain population and closely works together with Debark Hospital to set up direly needed emergency care in the region. With every donation you contribute to reaching the target of 16,500 £ which will enable SMMMS to purchase an ultrasound unit for Debark Hospital and the entire mountains.
