A single small hospital provides care to the Simien Mountains of Ethiopia but lacks the facility for emergency diagnoses. Our appeal for an ultrasound will help remedy this and save countless lives.

Story

Although my proposed walk is not so spectacular as running a marathon etc. I have decided to combine my love of walking, the need to celebrate my 70th in a memorable way and to fundraise for SMMMS by walking the Ridgeway in March.

They need to buy an urgently needed Ultra-sound for the small hospital in Debark, Ethiopia for emergency diagnoses, routine and midwifery care.  The hospital serves a region the size of Belgium with very few resources except for very dedicated Doctors and staff who SMMMS try to help with basic supplies and visits from British Doctors.

An ultra-sound for sure will save lives especially when the old x-ray machine has broken down or during one of the frequent power outages.

Once they have the machine an ultra-sound specialist from the States will visit to teach the Doctors on advanced techniques.
