Open Doors
254,000 young people have no stable place to call home today.
Without a stable home, young people often experience difficulties with their mental health and well-being as well as struggling to progress in their education or work.
Secure accommodation with Step by Step gives young people the foundation to build on. We provide opportunities to access specialist support services, such as counselling and family mediation, as well as personal development services such as skills workshops and training sessions.
Kiera hadn't chosen to remain with Step by Step at Christmas and was finding it hard to pretend to be excited and happy. She was being perceived as ungrateful, but that wasn't what she'd intended at all. This just wasn't the Christmas she'd planned or been hoping for. Kiera did her best with joining in with the festivities but was acutely aware that she was here because she had nowhere else to be.
She said, “I really appreciated the gifts, and the staff coming in and cooking for us (we usually cook for ourselves). But I was really sad, it was hard not being with my family but we just weren’t getting on well enough for that to be possible.”
Together, we can give young people like Kiera the kind of experience at Christmas that so many of us are hoping to have. One filled with joy, love, and sharing.
Help us to give 233 young people this first step to a brighter future by opening doors this Christmas time.
Just £29 could cover a night in Step by Step accommodation.
