Story
Cutty Sark is a true survivor of the seas; since her launch in 1869 she has braved storms, the perilous waters of Cape Horn and even fire. Now she needs your help.
Preserving this celebrated sailing ship to share the stories of life on board demands regular maintenance and ongoing conservation work.
In 2006, a project began to ensure that the ship would survive into her third century, and she reopened in 2012 following major conservation work. Today, our team of shipkeepers, volunteers and riggers continue to safeguard her future. In 2017, we're asking you to support the restoration of the life boats and of the anchor on the starboard side of the ship.
Over 250,000 people visit the ship each year, and some 35,000 people take part in learning events and activities aboard. Please help us to preserve this national icon for today's visitors and future generations!
