Yes-U-Are was set up by a diverse group of local people who have a shared commitment to the renewal of historic city centre and the enhancement of the lives of local people through what we hope to achieve. Indeed, central to our vision, was the purchase, repair and refurbishment, for community use, of the former church building that occupies a prominent position in the city centre. The Trustees have, in conjunction with a specialist conservation architect, developed plans for the refurbishment of the building to provide a training and mid-range conference venue for local, regional and national groups, office space for local charities, a café that can also meet the catering needs of the conference facility, a gallery for local artists to show their works and exhibition spaces for local heritage groups. The first stage of our stewardship of the building was to ensure that it was wind and watertight as well as to complete essential repairs to ensure that the roof, which was in imminent danger of collapse, was secured. Stage one also saw the annexe to the north elevation of the building adapted and upgraded to provide a warm and welcoming office environment. To achieve this, major permanent roofing repairs were done to stop the ingress of water and allow a period of drying out while funds are sought for the main building refurbishment appeal. To further realize our vision of a community facility at the heart of the city, Yes-U-Are, in addition to support from Trusts and Foundations, will need to enlist support from local people who sign up us members, are elected as Trustees, or provide financial support through personal giving or organising fundraising activities.
