We develop the skills of Saharawi refugees to tell their story through the arts

Story

CARAVANSERAI ARE GOING BACK TO THE DESERT!

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page. Please make a donation now to support the Saharawi people and make this project possible!

We are about to embark on stage two of our collaboration with the Saharawi Refugees. After returning from the camps we have been invited back by the Polisario Front for their next big event. We have been collaborating with the Saharawis by offering a series of workshops in acting and film making. We hope to empower them to tell their stories through theatre and film in a way which is accessible to an international audience. We have also been researching a piece of our own - 'The Wall' - dealing with the Saharawi story which they have invited us back to perform for them and an invited international audience next month.

This has simultaneously proved to be an extraordinary opportunity for young UK actors to open their minds and hearts to the harsh realities of the world outside of Europe and the United States and will long inform their artistic output.

HOW YOU CAN HELP!

We urgently need to raise £5000 to get cast and crew back to the camps. The money we raise goes towards airfares, the families who accomodate us, the translators & Polisario representatives who make it all possible. So not only will your kind donations make the play possible but you will be investing in their struggling economy.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor the group.  Sandblast Ltd gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

THE COUNT DOWN BEGINS!

The plan is to return to the camps on the 1st May and to perform the play just prior to the Sahara Film Festival. We will then work with the fledgling Saharawi National Theatre and have discussions about the creation of a permanent actor training facility in the camps.

The actors/director have 3 weeks to rehearse and get the play ready to take back to the camps

We will then return to the UK where a national and international tour of the piece is planned for 2010.

IT'S FOR A GOOD CAUSE!

We are fundraising for Sandblast, the only UK charity involved directly in the camps. See (www.sandblast-arts.org) and the organisation with whom we collaborate in order to facilitate this project. Sandblast seeks to celebrate Saharawis through a series of cultural exchanges.
