Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.  I am undertaking the Sahara Trek to raise money for two causes that are important to me.  This page is for Newbattle Parish Church; the other cause is the Muscular Dystophy Campaign, and my fundraising page for that cause  is at www.justgiving.com/carolyn-sahara

I am raising money to help build an up-to-date meeting room at our ancient Church.  This will provide facilities for our Youth Group, our Sunday School, the marriage preparation and marriage enrichment programmes, and a host of other organisations in our Church and our community.

This 60-mile trek in the Sahara Desert will really stretch me, and I'm quite scared about the prospect!   After a serious injury to my knee many years ago, I've found it difficult to walk any distance, so the 15-mile sections that form much of this trek will be really tough.  I've been training steadily since the Spring to get fit, and recently covered some 117 miles in the west of Scotland over a three-week period.  If you are a client, you will be getting used to my turning up at meetings in boots and with my walking poles!

So I'm asking you to sponsor me. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It's also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Newbattle Parish Church will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Many thanks for your support.

About the charity

Re-united at last, the ancient parish of Newbattle now comprises the lovely former mining village of Newtongrange, as well as the 1950s estates of Mayfield and Easthouses, and the homes clustered around the original kirk set amongst the trees of Kirkbank. Set on the outskirts of Dalkeith, we continue to worship in every community of our large parish, reaching out to our neighbours and friends with the love of God. If you would like more information about us and what we’re up to, then take a look at our website – www.newbattle.focus.btinternet.co.uk
