VSO is a worthy cause because they don't concentrate on quick-fixes and aid, but utilise human beings' skills and imagination to plant seeds for long-term, sustainable and realistic development all over thr globe. And it's not just about smug Westerners exporting their ideas of development overseas. The Global Xchange programme I'll be going on is half based within the UK (3 months in Glasgow and 3 months in Syria) - which means that it recognises and acts to solve problems within our own supposedly 'developed' society equally as much as 'developing' countries.
