Story
Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.
On 19th October we will be running the Wimbledon 10K in order to raise money for KIDS a charity that helps Disabled children and young people have a happy childhood and the chance of a brighter future.
KIDS provides an extensive range of services to 7,000 Disabled children and young people aged 0 – 25 and their families and operates across England in London, The South East, The South West, The Midlands and Yorkshire and the Humber.
Money you donate will go directly towards buying equipment in an Adventure Playground in Hackney, adjacent to the River Lea and the 2012 Olympic Games site. Hackney is one of the smallest but also most densely populated of all of London’s boroughs, and an area with a marginalised population and deprived communities. The borough ranks fifth out of the 50 most deprived districts in and ranks only second to Tower Hamlets as the most deprived borough in London in the Government’s Indices of Deprivation.
Childhood obesity is a growing problem across the country and Hackney is no exception. 35% of Hackney’s population (28% of households) live in overcrowded homes, on estates in high and short rise blocks, which lack outdoor gardens and safe environments in which to play. A shortage of green spaces, high traffic volumes, and the fear of crime also restrict children from being able to play outside. For many Disabled children in Hackney, a visit at KIDS’ Adventure Playground is one of the few opportunities they will have to play, exercise and burn off energy in a safe, green outdoor space which supports their needs.
Please help us and KIDS by sponsoring us on this page now. Any donation we recieve, however large or small, will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Soji and Cathy
