Story
We have experienced how research funded by Arthritis Research UK can change lives and we are raising money for this amazing charity.
Thanks to Arthritis Research UK, we recently met Professor Pitzalis who heads the Centre of Experimental Medicine & Rheumatology at Barts Hospital. Over ten years ago, with his team and the funding of Arthritis Research UK, he carried out the ground-breaking research which led to the invention of a new family of drugs called anti-TNF's. These drugs have significantly improved the lives of many adults and children who suffer from arthritis.
However more research is needed. Although anti-TNF's are wonder drugs, they only achieve almost full remission in a third of patients. For the many others, including over 10,000 children in the UK, arthritis still means a life of pain, fatigue, disability and isolation. Part of the research conducted under the leadership of Professor Pitzalis focuses on understanding why anti-TNF's do not work for every patient, in the hope of finding an alternative.
So, we are climbing Mount Snowdon to help raise much needed funds for further research.
