Story
Hi there, my name is Mason, I'm 17 years-old and I'm from Stanhope in County Durham.
I have Cerebral Palsy and for years I have used the same wheelchair for everything. It's got plenty of miles on the clock, and right now I am fundraising for a brand new chair which will give me so much more independence, make me stronger and help me to participate in many more activities.
This new chair will enable me to 'stand' - which is vital as my hamstrings are at risk of shortening, so regular standing is essential for my physical well-being. Plus, the village where we live has cobbled streets which can be difficult to navigate, so the 'sit to stand' chair will make getting around easier too.
My Mum Lyn knows how much the new piece of kit will mean to me 'Mason loves being outside and the powerchair would allow him to go the river where we live. He could also do more with his sister, Elinor, who has learning difficulties and still lives at home. He would also get to see his brother Daniel more often.'
My Mum is an inspiration to me in lots of ways, but she also provides day-to-day practical for me. Unfortunately, she has arthritis of the spine, hands and feet and her condition is worsening. She is finding it increasingly difficult to get me in a standing position - so the chair will take the burden away from Mum too!
All of my friends at Percy Hedley Upper School are backing my efforts for a new chair and I have lots of support from community groups, grant giving bodies and rotary clubs. These chairs are way beyond anything our family can afford, and come in at £27,396! If you can support me with a donation or have an idea of how to raise money I would love to hear from you.
You can donate directly to my fundraising on this page - or you can text MASN88 £amount to 70070
All the best,
Mason
