Story
In June 2019, our father was diagnosed with Mesothelioma, a terminal lung cancer, caused from an exposure to Asbestos. Unfortunately, 37 years ago, the same illness took the life of our grandfather (dad's dad). Asbestos was used for many years for the strengthening and fire-proofing of many materials, and although was banned in the UK in 1977, it is still present in many buildings across the country. China and Russia continue to use it religiously in the construction of new builds.
In support of Mesothelioma UK, we will be running 4 miles, every 4 hours, for 48 hours. This equates to two marathons in two days, and those who know us, know that although we like to train, WE HATE RUNNING. The lack of sleep coupled with newborns will be an added challenge to overcome. (Note: this was originally set up as a 182 coast-to-coast walk, and then changed to the 3-peaks challenge, however, the birth of Charlie's daughter and Corona put a stop to these!)
Mesothelioma UK is dedicated to providing specialist mesothelioma information, support and education, and to improving care and treatment for all UK mesothelioma patients and their carers. The charity integrates into NHS front line services to ensure specialist mesothelioma nursing is available at the point of need. This is achieved through a growing network of specialist mesothelioma nurses, regionally based in NHS hospitals but funded by Mesothelioma UK.
