Story

Last year Chris ran the BUPA London 10,000 and enjoyed it so much that he signed up to do it again this year. Even better is that John was very keen too, so the pair of us will be running it.

Aside from personal challenge, the main reason for taking part is to raise some money for a worthy cause. It didn't take long for us both to agree on a charity - the Breast Unit at Basildon Hospital.

Breast cancer is now the most common cancer in the UK with 125 women a day and 300 men every year being diagnosed. Many of us will know people directly affected by breast cancer and its physical and emotional effects, for example Barbara Bell (Lorraine’s Mum - many of you may have been to the fancy dress parties to raise money for the various units that have helped Barbara over the last nine years). Barbara has received fantastic treatment from this unit for two cancers over the last year and a half (her forth and fifth in total) and it was this life saving treatment that has inspired us when training for the run.

Due to improvements in technology and care, more women like Barbara are surviving breast cancer than ever before, this is why it's so important to support our local Breast Cancer unit.

So please give anything you can to help continue the fantastic service they provide.

Thank you to everybody for your donations,
Chris Carrington and John Bloomfield
