Story
Warning! This is going to get a bit personal and talk about mental health. Yes I'm putting it out there and admitting like many I have had mental health issues. Over the past year i have suffered from postnatal depression (PND), and I want to share a snippet of my story in the hope it will encourage others who are struggling . OK here goes...
As a new mum it's really hard to admit you're not coping. Instead of treasuring those early moments I was often crying, feeling isolated like I was the worst mum on the planet, and generally just wanting to run away from it all. PND happens for many reasons, from the feeling like you've lost your identity to trying to control the crazy hormones that fly around from growing a baby.
It's been a tough journey and I honestly don't think I would be in the same position if it hadn't been for Bluebell. They are a Bristol based charity that give new parents, like myself, a safe space to talk, relax and just be. They have pulled me out of a dark space and given back my confidence without feeling judged or intimidated.
I initially started running last November in the hope of shifting a few pounds but it also has done so much for my mental health. Therefore it only seems fitting to run the 10K for Bluebell and for all the wonderful mothers I've met there. It's not easy to admit you can't cope and need help. You're all brilliant, and thank you for helping me on my journey.
Finally I want to acknowledge and thank the support this last year from my friends, family and most importantly my husband. PND not only affects me but has a massive impact on everyone. It is a real shit which is why it's so important that places like bluebell exist.
