Thames Valley Air Ambulance is the only provider of advanced critical care within Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire. Every day, someone in our community could be in urgent need of our service.

Story

In May 2009 four friends from RAF Halton took their bikes out for an afternoon ride to make best of a sunny afternoon.

Shane had just returned from adventure training in , walking over the and trying to capsize a boat on the Kick Horse river whilst rafting, Shane was involved in a life threatening incident that could have ended fatally if it wasn’t for his outstanding physical fitness and mental strength.

First aid was administered by Shanes close friend Russ who was also out on the ride. He was able to maintain his airway and stabilize his condition whilst others were preparing the area for the arrival of the TVACAA.

The Air Ambulance was tasked for his immediate recovery and subsequently moved to John Radcliffe hospital in only minutes away with the helicopter.

Over a period of weeks Shane broke records with his recovery under close observation of his wife and close friends he managed to gain mobility with his legs and communicate with his doctors, in a relatively short time. His ability to carry out all these actions so soon after such a serious injury shows testament to his personal mental and physical strength.

Shane’s story was broadcast over the Christmas period on Noel Edmonds Christmas present. This resulted in Shane that and his family enjoying a break in the sun and renewing their wedding vowels.

To gauge Shanes level of fitness to date he is cycling 16km within a 30 min period on the exercise bikes.

This fundraising event is dedicated to Shane, a man who strives for perfection and has the respect of all who knows him, with all funds that are raised going directly to the and Chiltern Air Ambulance.

Craig as spoken a few words of thanks for use in your Press Release.

Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance are very grateful for all the hard work that Cpl Craig Warner put in in raising £?????? form the recent Rockride sponsored ride from Gibraltar to Buckingham.
Craig from the moment I approached him was enthusiastic to take part in this daunting challenge. To achieve this magnificent result Craig over a period of over a year had to train, find sponsors carry on his normal duties and be a family man, a most impressive commitment and our thanks go to Craig and his family, as well as all those who supported him in achieving the fantastic final figure.

The ride it self was no easy bike ride, as Craig can testify, and he, along with the other Rockriders rode over 1,600 across mountainous Spain and France in some very hot conditions in 14 days.

The ride was organised by Granville Masonic Lodge from Buckingham and it was they who invited a number of charities, including Thames Valley & Chiltern Air Ambulance to take part to raise funds.

The money Craig raised for Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance will help us keep flying to attend to those who have been involved in serious accidents or illness. At the present time the helicopter (which is based at RAF Benson) is flying on average three times a day on emergency mission. As TVACAA dose not receive any Government funding, the £2,000 average for each mission has been well matched by Craig's donation.
Recently one 13 year old girl, who had been airlifted by TVACAA, said to me "Please thank all those who fundraise for the Air Ambulance, for I know what it is like to have your life saved by the Air Ambulance" so on behalf of her and all those who will benefit form Craig's donation, thank you Craig and thanks to all your supporters (and that includes Amanda and the boys).
