We support people with sickle cell disease to improve their overall quality of life

Story

Most people know me as Dave Johnson the dj and Ibiza regular, however I am also a qualified nurse. I haven't practiced for 15 years since moving abroad to Spain and have now returned to live in the UK.

As a Staff Nurse on Edgar Horne Ward at Chelsea and Westminster in London I looked after sufferers of Sickle Cell Disorder. Although I enjoyed all aspects of the job, this particular area was of great interest and brought job satisfaction and I forged great working friendships with my regular patients. I've always wanted to do something to create awareness and funds for Sickle Cell and now that I am back in the UK I have the opportuinity, to run a marathon is also a personal goal.

So after much toing and froing, gentle persuasion and persistence my two Sisters, Katherine and Amy, and I are late entries to run the Brighton Marathon on the 6th of April this year in aid of the Siclke Cell Society.

Although now a full time Mum Katherine is a carer and Amy is a Staff Nurse, also at Chelsea and Westminster. Our Mother came from Ireland in 1965 to train as a Nurse, so it's in the blood, if you'll excuse the small pun!

A link to the Society's web site is below, you can find all info on them and the nature of Sickle Cell Disorder.

I have also posted a link to our facebook page where we will record our training and fund rasing progress, photos and any articles of interest. Please like and share the page.

Training will be tricky - Amy is extremely busy with her work and as I mentioned Katherine is a full time Mum. For me personally all those years on the club scene, the late nights etc took their tole so it is a challenge to train and get fit enough to run 26.2 miles but what better incentive than to do it for this great cause....we WILL all be crossing that line on the 6th of April!

Due to us being late entries we are limited with time to raise the much needed funds, so please give as generously as you can but, of course, in these difficult economic times every little helps! Please feel free share to as much as you can. Thankyou for your support, Dave Johnson.
