Story
This is all about the daughter of a member of Towergate Staff....
Etnie's Fund - The Journey so far …..
Kealey’s little daughter, Etnie, was diagnosed with Leukaemia in June 2016 – at Age 3. Initial tests and treatment found that Etnie would need to embark upon a chemotherapy treatment plan which would run until August 2018.
Nearly a year on and Etnie is responding well to treatment, however, she still has a long way to go. Every day, Etnie has oral chemotherapy medicine – which apparently tastes disgusting! Every 3 weeks, Etnie visits Colchester Hospital for chemotherapy delivered via her Hickman Line. Every 12 weeks, it’s a visit to Addenbrookes for chemo to be given via a lumbar puncture to ensure that the leukaemia doesn’t spread through her spine to her brain. Every Monday, the Colchester team test Etnie’s blood count level.
Despite all of her treatment, Etnie remains a happy, strong and sweet little girl. Etnie really enjoys playing in the garden and would love a sand pit or swimming pool, however, due to her Hickman Line, unfortunately this hasn't been possible. Due to the development of a particular dry suit by Hammonds, costing £250 this is now possible and we would all love to be able to help towards the cost of this & for her to enjoy the summer playing on a see-saw, swing or slide and so we would also like to raise some money to help buy these wonderful toys as well.
Alongside fundraising for Etnie, we are also looking to support the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance. They and Etnie’s fund are ideal charities for us to represent, and are far closer than you may think. The risk of infection for Etnie is ever present, and with her attending primary school in September this risk will increase. Should the worst happen and Etnie get an infection and her temperature spikes above 38 degrees, she must be hospitalised with an hour….at Addenbrookes in Cambridge. The only method of transport that can achieve this is the E&H Air Ambulance.
