The Team

In November, to mark his 75th birthday, and to raise money to support the children at the Sister Home Orphanage, Roy Francis and team will be hiking the Everest High Route, the toughest trek in the Everest region.

The Mission

The route is 185km with 10,975m of ascent. It crosses 3 high passes; Kongma La (5,535m), Cho La (5,330m) & Renjo La (5,360m). Along the way the team will also climb 3 minor peaks (hills): Chhukhung Ri (5,550m), Kala Patthar (5,550m) & Gokyo Ri (5,360m). The trek, all being well, will take 19 days, Kathmandu to Kathmandu.

The Reason Why

There are now 26 children at Sister Home, girls and boys, ranging in age from 3 to 15 years. Most are from the Tharu community, historically poorly educated agricultural workers. It costs £30 a month to accommodate, feel, clothe and educate each child. Those of school age attend an English medium school and do very well. Some have their sights on becoming teachers, engineers and nurses, they all want to make a difference!
