    Story

We have just taken part in the nationally recognised university charity fundraising challenge 'Jail Break', in which we had to get as far away from Keele University as possible in 30 hours without spending any money on travel. We went to Hanley/Liverpool/ Manchester/ Leeds/Edinburgh/ Dundee/ Aberdeen/Inverness all to raise money and awareness for the
AMAZING charity Food2Think, which provides healthy school lunches for 100 children aged 4-11 at the Gayatri Devi Primary School, situated in the remote and rural district of Dhading Besi in Nepal.

This is a fantastic, community led, locally run charity, which was started by Simon Rimmington and Jeanette Fanthome, who worked at the school as teachers, and had concerns raised by other teachers at the school that many of the children were not getting regular meals at home. This charity provides all children at the school a guaranteed healthy lunch, which encourages parents living in the surrounding areas to send their children to school 6 days a week. Food2Think has become even more essential to this area since the devastating 2015 earthquake, which destroyed parts of the school.

When we heard about Food2Think we thought it was a simple, yet amazing idea, which helps provide children with two essential things: food and education. Two things we have always taken for granted, yet so many people do not have access to even one of these. Since it has started, Food2Think has helped set up a lunch committee of teachers and parents who organise the food and the menu, and as of February 2017 the charity has helped provide about 30,000 lunches. At the moment, each lunch costs 10 pence per child, however, with more fundraising the aim is to increase the budget to 20 pence per child in order to ensure the meals are even more nutritious, and employ more school cooks, thus also providing jobs for the local community. This means, it only takes £4 to feed a child for a whole month!!
