Story
I’m running The Paris Marathon with my friend Suze she has set herself this target for her 40th birthday. Not only will I be supporting Suze, but supporting GWSE with their HerCare project as well. So two goals to aim for!
The HerCare Project
We live in a world full of possibilities and resources nowadays. But, there is a balance missing in the world – some don’t have access to everyday resources as others do. Hygienic Sanitary products is one.
In rural Kenya sanitary napkins are expensive and mostly unobtainable when you only earn £0.16 a day. Many young girls either skip school until they finish menstruating or they drop out of school entirely at puberty. GWSE is working to ensure these girls receive a consistent education, giving them a brighter future.
Our aim is to purchase a small sanitary napkin making unit. This simple machine will not only give our school girls free sanitary napkins while in education, the community will also be able to sell the products at almost 40% less than ‘brand’ napkins. Making the napkins affordable and readily available to the neighbouring low income communities. This is not a huge money making machine, it is a self sustaining small community project. But in the girls eyes it is huge!
