    Story

Our beautiful baby boy Jax Dallas Johnson was born 25th October 2016 by emergency Caesarean section after a very long labour and failed intervention with suction and forceps.

When Jax was born his head was severely misshapen from being in the birth canal for a long time and also from the apparatus used in attempting the assisted delivery. We were told his head would go back to a rounded more 'normal' looking shape however we are now 12 weeks in and unfortunately his poor head hasn't corrected how is to be expected. It has become flat and wide on the back and raised/high at the top. We tried many ways to naturally correct it such as repositioning,a putting Jax to sleep on a special sleep curve mattress and we also try to have him sat up on our knees as much as possible. This condition, when the baby's skull does not revert back to a normal rounded shape, is medically known as Brachycephaly.

We are now at the stage where we believe the only way his deformity will be corrected will be from seeking help from cranial specialists and the assistance of helmet therapy. This involves him wearing a helmet for 3-6 months that has been made for him by the cranial specialists.

Upon doing our research we discovered that this treatment is not funded by the NHS due to it being considered 'cosmetic'. Although we agree this is a cosmetic procedure, we have to stress that the long term affects of brachycephaly or 'flat head' syndrome that is not corrected could be detrimental to a child's self esteem and mental health. Of course as any parent would, we want to do whatever we can to prevent this.

We have our first consultation with the specialist in Leeds on February 24th. This is when we will find it out the exact cost of the procedure which ranges from £2k-£2.5k.

We would be so grateful and thankful to anyone who would be so kind to donate anything at all towards the cost of Jax's treatment.

Many thanks and lots of love from,

    Jo, Kirk and Jax xxx
