In the past 8 years Georgia has been treated with many anti epilepsy drugs, and has undergone nearly two years of Ivig infusions, initially with good results but failed to continue, and most recently 4 rounds of rituximab which made her very unwell and had no positive effect on her seizure activity.
It had become evident that medical management of her condition was not effective any more and Georgia has undergone a full surgical evaluation in 2015. In December a decision was made by the neurology team at Gosh (Great Ormond Street) that a functional right hemispherotomy (disconnection of the right side of the brain), would be Georgia's best hope of seizure control and a 75% chance of seizure freedom.
