I want to highlight the stigma of men committing suicide. In the UK, suicide is the number one killer of men under 45, with 12 men taking their lives everyday. The male suicide rate is currently three times higher than that of females. People say that suicide is a selfish act. I think they are wrong. If you think that suicide's selfish, then you've obviously never been suicidal. There are many reasons why people take this route and the main reason is because they just want the pain to stop.

It's been 2 years since my close friend, Thomas Malley, lost his battle with life. He broke my heart the day he left and I don't think I will ever get over it. Unfortunately, I understand why he did it but it doesn't make it any easier. 16 years ago I felt like I had no other option but to end it. I really, truly believed that I wanted to die, but the truth is, I wanted to be saved. I was lucky because somebody saved me. I wish I could have saved you Tom. I will never forget you my friend. I will always love you. XXX

Tom was the life and soul of every party, everywhere. He touched many lives, made so many friends all over the world and genuinely was one of life's good guys. Brighton held a special place in Tom's heart and was home for many years, so it is the ideal location to dedicate a bench in his memory and have somewhere for his friends to go to remember him.

I want to raise some money, £1203.60 to be exact. I would like to dedicate a bench in Brighton in Tom's memory. The bench would be new and would be made especially for Tom. The plaque for the bench has a 50 character limit. Additional characters cost 85p plus VAT per character. The work would be carried out through Brighton and Hove City Council. The process of dedicating a bench can take up to four months to complete. I would like to invite all of Tom's family and friends for ideas on what to write on the plaque. Any money raised over the target amount will be donated to the Samaritan's.
