Weʼve raised £910 to Ronald MacDonald House Charities and The Little Princess Trust by Chopping our hair!

Funded on Saturday, 22nd February 2020

    Story

My beautiful daughter Amelia has made the brave decision to chop off her hair and donate it to the Little Princess Trust. The Little Princess Trust provide free real hair wigs to children and young people who have lost their hair through cancer treatment and other conditions. Inspired by Amelia's bravery and selflessness, I have chosen to join her and also donate around 10 inches of my hair.

Alongside donating our hair, we want to raise money for the charity to help cover the cost of them turning our hair into a wig. However, there is another charity which is close to our hearts that we would like to raise money for. First a bit of backstory....

Amelia was born with a form of cereal palsy called Cerebral Diplega, which effects her lower limbs. Amelia is due to have selective dorsal rhizotomy later this year at Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool. This is an invasive procedure, and will require Amelia to be in hospital for at least 2 weeks. We will be staying in Ronald MacDonald House, free of charge, during this time so that we can be close to her. Ronald MacDonald House Charities provide free accommodation and support for families with seriously ill children in hospital.

(unfortunately, JustGiving do not allow you to set up two charities as beneficiaries. As such, I have set this up as a personal cause and I will split the money between the two charities).

As such, Amelia and I, (Amelia's mummy, Emily), will be donating around 10 inches of hair to the Little Princess Trust and fundraising for Ronald MacDonald House Charities and The Princess Trust.

Amelia and I have always had long hair. I believe its one of my best features. Anyone who knows me will understand what my hair means to me and how nervous I am of changing it so dramatically. However, Amelia is so undeterred and is not showing any nervousness about chopping off her hair. She wants to do some good for all the poorly children who have been unfortunate in losing their hair. As such, I will be braving it alongside her. Our hair will regrow, and the least we can do is donate our long locks to such a great cause, and raise money for two fabulous charities along the way!

We will be getting the chop during february half term (Monday 17 at 10.30!). Please dig deep for a good cause! and feel free to join us for the main event. Tea/Coffee/biscuits will be provided!
