Mason is a 8 year old boy who has cerebral palsy in the form of spastic
diplegia.
Mason was born at 28weeks, he spent the first 6weeks in ICU then a special care unit.
He first sat up unassisted at 12months, he couldn’t alone until he was 2 and half years old.
He does walk independently now with afos (splints).
Mason has impaired movement patterns with reduced balanced coordination.
Mason has tightness in both calf and hamstrings muscles. Mason is currently waiting to undergo surgery to lengthen his calf muscles.
Mason has a physiotherapy programme which family and school complete on a daily basis. Mason is a very active boy but has a reduced balance and falls frequently.
We encourage him to take part in physical activites inside and out.
This would include a specialist trike, which unfortunately Mason has outgrown.
The trike would help him to maintain and increase his muscle strength, cardiovascular fitness, stamia and flexibilty as cycling uses all of the major muscle groups as you pedal and also would let Mason enjoy social cycling actives with family and peers his own age group.
Mason would benefit so much from having a new TomCat specialist tricycle.
Unfortunately for Mason a new trike comes at such a high price tag of £1,800
