Grassroot NGOs are at the frontline of community service, in delivering the best care they can to some of the most vulnerable and neglected individuals in society. So often we only hear about the big players in the game but today I want to share with you the story of humble beginnings whose ending starts with YOU!

Care Community Education Centre for Child Development is a grassroot charity working in Yumbe District in Northern Uganda, an area ventured by very few. They actively work with orphans and vulnerable children and do everything from feeding clubs, health programs, sustainable farming and caring for the greater needs of the people they serve. A region often neglected, they have suffered the shortfalls of a lack of funding for many of their programs including sending the kids to school!

As a UN Health Officer I am working closely with them to develop more robust and sustainable projects to ultimately enhance and promote a happier and healthier community.There is a lot of work going into this project and one of those things is building the orphanage and a community centre. We have 4 acres (17 690 square metres) of land which was graciously donated by the community to carry out these activities, but now need to put resources together to build this centre and begin to change the lives of these kids.

This centre will serve as a community hub which offers services to empower the locals through; delivery of comprehensive health programs, skills workshops, farming activities, income generating projects, a fully-equipped orphanage and a recreational centre.

So I challenge you today to support the silent voices and sow a seed where it is most needed, in a community overlooked, neglected and forgotten. Every penny will go a long way.
