Recent research from the National Literacy trust shows that children who read regularly are much more likely to be confident and happy - but children in disadvantaged areas are less likely to have access to books. The Roberts Centre does amazing work supporting families and children in Portsmouth and surrounding areas, and I'd love to help them by helping provide new books for their nursery and contact centres. Giving the gift of reading can make an incredible difference to children in our area, now and for their futures.

For World Book Day, I hope to present the Roberts Centre with a whole stack of new books that they can distribute and use with children in the city, many of whom may not have easy access to books otherwise.
