    Story

Members of Scouting such as Leaders, Explorer's and Networkers from The 37th Henderson Ayrshire Scout Group and various scout groups in Forth Region, will take part in this project.
This trip will take us to a small village in the far north of Namibia, called Omakange, where children of preschool age are being taught by a volunteer teacher under a tree. The main aim of this trip is to build a school to give these children a safe suitable environment to learn in. There is a smaller secondary project of making a community garden, big enough to sustain the village, as well as smaller projects such as building a fence around the perimeter of the site, and make a suitable campsite for local scouts to camp on as well as our selves.
This project will benefit the children's learning and health, as well as the community as an improved knowledge of younger generations will benefit them in the future.
For the Scottish Scouts, the project will develop understanding of the challenges faced by communities in other less affluent parts of the world, and of how practical interventions can improve the quality of life and learning.
As Namibia is a developing country, it is difficult to access the village. The travel will take a long time, and will be of greatest cost. Once in Namibia it will be very hot and dry, with many dangers such as dehydration, bites, stings, diseases and infections. Therefore, the money raised here will go towards paying for travel, equipment, suitable clothes and injections to prevent diseases.

Other events and fundraisers are planned to pay for the project costs, such as building materials, water and food. None of this money though will go to funding personal costs, this must be raised individually. I am going to take part in a sponsored bike ride around the island of Cumbrae which is around 10 miles as well as other sponsored events still to be decided upon.

    Thank you for your support.
