Carter was born at 33+6 when I went into spontaneous labour. He is a twin to Benton. When Benton was born first the delivery team realised the boys had ttts (twin to twin transfusion syndrome). Benton was bright red and Carter was deathly white and wasn't breathing. He didnt take his first breath for 3 minutes. He was very poorly and all his organs were shutting down. His heart was so strained it swelled and filled his chest. I was discharged from hospital and rushed to be by his bedside 1.5 hours away as he had taken a turn for the worse. He had problems with his heart, lungs, liver & kidneys. At 2 days old we found out he had a bleed on the brain but was told that it was quite common and the ultrasound would be repeated. The repeated scan showed that Carter had suffered a stroke in my tummy. An mri at 6 weeks showed he has pvl. The white matter on the left side of his brain has died and filled with cysts. Carters heart, kidney, liver & lung problems are all resolved. He no longer needs oxygen or a feeding tube. He has trunkal hypotonia so feels very floppy and cannot do what normal 13 months old do. He cannot sit without support, crawl or walk. He is just mastering rolling. He also has right side hemiparesis cerebral palsy so his arm & leg can be very stiff and he doesn't use them like he does the left side. When we take Carter out we have to feed him in his buggy as no where provided supportive seating for older babies. We pay on a weekly basis for private physio to help him achieve his milestones. We would love for him to have a go to seat which can be used in the house for playing with Benton or it can be attached to chairs and Carter can be fed in it when out and about.
