Story
My name is Herbie and I am 5 years old (nearly 6) I would really like to raise enough money to send 'The Children of Hope' something for Christmas. My Mummy told me a little bit about the problems these children face; she will explain the rest........
One night at the beginning of 2016 Herbie could not settle. He told me that he really wanted to raise money for children that were not as lucky as him. I was amazed by his request and on further discussion he decided he would like to do something nice for Christmas. I was determined to support him with this.
More recently I told him about the children of Hope. He made his mind up there and then that he would like to raise money for them.
Anja Ring Branch Lovén who is the driving force behind a project called DINNødhjælp or 'Land of Hope'. It was set up in 2012. Anja sold everything she owned and moved to Nigeria to save children that are accused of being witches. These children are thrown out of their homes and shunned by their villages. They are neglected, beaten, tortured abused and left to die, if they are not killed first.
Anya and her team have saved about 38 children so far between the ages of birth and 18.
The organisation performs important educational work to break the superstition in Nigeria. Anja and her team take the children in to their care where they are nursed back to health and given an education. The love and care they are given is quite exceptional.
We recently contacted Anja to ask if there was anything we could do to help. She explained that the children would love some colouring pens, pencils and books. She has also warned that postage to Nigeria is very expensive.
This fundraising page is for Herbie to fulfil his goal of helping children that are not as lucky as him, which originated many months ago while he was lying in bed. He needs to raise enough money to supply good quality items and cover postage.
Thank you for your help xx

7 years agoWe did it, we raised enough money and I thank you all. To date we have yet to send our parcel but will do soon. When we started to fundo raise for hope and his friends we had no idea that less than a month later our world would be blown apart. Herbies daddy was diagnosed with an aggressive for of cancer mid November 2016 and sadly he died on 5th of February 2017. As you can imagine this has been devastating for me (Herbies mum and wife to my husband 'Chris') and his brothers. Chris was only 45. We now have a a fundraiser for a memorial bench.

8 years agoThanks for all the great donations so far. We have smashed our original target 'yay' but due to the horrendous cost of postage are looking to raise nearer to £300. We had hoped to send in time for Christmas but the parcel will make a lovely new year suprise instead xx Herbie has purchased all of the goodies. We will aim to post a photo soon 🎄

8 years agoWell, we think we have found a way to send 'the' pacel for around £75. Still expensive but a lot better than first quoted. Donations have all but stopped now. Herbie continues to put some of his pocket money into the pot and I am selling old toys and clothes to add to funds further. We have started to buy some bits and it is amazing to see Herbies vision (the one that stared in early 2016) start to take shape. Thank you to all the wonderful people supporting him. Here are some things from our first shopping trip.

8 years agoSlight 'Arghhhhh' moment this morning. Herbie & I have chosen lovely items in larger tubs to accomodate 38 children. Next step was to check out postage costs. Oh dear. Anja and her team were not kidding when they said postage to Nigeria was expensive!! Extremely shocked to see that it will potentially cost hundreds to send a parcel and that is with a max weight of 25 - 30kg. I'm so hoping I have read it wrong and when I look again I will find a cheaper alternative because this could set our whole plan back quite a bit
