    Story

Oscar is a gorgeous little boy with a beautiful soul who gives joy to all those who meet him. Sadly, just before his first birthday in November 2016, he was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder, Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Currently, this is life-limiting (maybe late teens to mid-twenties) and means that he is unlikely to ever walk and will need to use a wheelchair to get around.

Although the family have been devastated at this heart-breaking diagnosis and the loss of the future we hoped for for Oscar, we remain very positive and hopeful. He is an extremely bright little boy, very interested in the world around him and always intrigued with new sights and sounds. He loves swimming with his Daddy. There is a good chance of new medication coming on to the market in the next year or two (Nusinersen/Spinraza) which could dramatically change the outcome for him, and, in the meantime, we mean to do all we can to make his life as happy, fun-filled and pain-free as we can.

We're fund raising for two causes, to be split 50-50: one is to have money ready for Oscar as and when the treatment becomes available (this will most likely have to be paid for privately) and also for when he needs aids like wheelchairs, hoists, specialist equipment etc. The other is to raise awareness and funds for the charity SMA Support UK. They are an established charity that supports and empowers anyone affected by Spinal Muscular Atrophy. They are advocates for better services, raise public awareness and fund research related initiatives. You can check out their website and find out more about Spinal Muscular Atrophy here: http://www.smasupportuk.org.uk/

Please receive our thanks in advance for any funds you are able to give, no matter how small. Your support is very much valued and appreciated, and, if you'd like to join us in some fundraising events, we'd be glad to have you on board..

A big Thank You from Oscar's family.

Oscar will be 'running' in his suped-up, all-terrain buggy (ably helped by his daddy!) so do come and say hello to him and his supporters on Southampton Common on 23 April.

As you can see from the latest photo of Oscar, he's pretty well at the moment. He had a consultation at Great Ormond Street Hospital with Professor Francesco Muntoni who considered that Oscar may well reach school age, even senior school age, and with current medical breakthroughs who knows what the future will hold for him, and children like him? Half of the proceeds we raise will go to SMA Support UK who are part of the research answer to conditions like SMA so your donations will be affecting other children as well as Oscar. Thank you again

On behalf of all of Oscar's family, a heartfelt and huge THANK YOU all for your amazing generosity - we really do appreciate every penny that's been given. We have a little over a month to go until family & friends undertake the 10k as part of the ABP Southampton Marathon. For some the training has gone like clockwork; others are still winding up to it, but we can promise that lots of effort will go in to running this race for Oscar. If you're around on the day, do come and give us a wave and a cheer to support us.
