Story
My mum, Anne, passed away 4th May 2018 just before 8pm with stage 4 COPD and emphysema lung conditions. She was also my carer and best friend. In her memory as she struggled to stop smoking we would like to raise money in her memory to help others struggling.
She was the most selfless person you could meet. She had volunteered in a wellbeing centre for people with mental health issues, dropping everything she was doing to help anyone. She used to run an art class at the centre and yet, was very critical of her own skills. She also worked at the reception desk and became well known to everyone.
Sadly for the past 2 years, due to her condition she has been unable to do what she loves. Mum has been ill for a long time, unable to work and she was upset she wasn't able to continue her volunteering work. Yet, she still kept on going pushing herself more and more, even though it made her very ill and tired doing so.
2 weeks prior to being in hospital for her end of life treatment (so she could pass away in peace and pain free) she said "alcoholics and drug abusers get full on special treatment and help and rehab to get through quitting when smokers get nothing, yet its still an addiction" she said it was very unfair. Which I agree, and many people agree.
She, like many others, have gone through every possible stop smoking treatment offered, including hypnosis, none worked for her and I feel they didn't try enough. She ended smoking more and more near the end to help dull her pain and panic/worry.
All money, Will go to help people trying to stop smoking and fund people who need help and support with Copd. Nobody deserves to have a slow and painful death, unable to breath.
Her best friend says she is:
"A beautiful soul gave everything she had to everyone else till the very end"
and she said she will be quitting smoking after the funeral. and I will be there to support her every step if needed.

6 years agoThanks everyone. After the webpage fees have taken out (didn't realise theyd take out such large percentage when it's for charity) I now just transferred the remaining amount over, on the British lung foundation donation page in memory of mum. So far with this page, some direct donations to site and cash donations we raised total of around £400. The page is now closed but if you still want to donate to the copd charity you can donate directly here: https://www.blf.org.uk/donate and you cna choose amount and also choose in memory of loved one

My mum passed away recently and one the last things she said as how there's not as much support for people to quit smoking compared to drug and alcohol abuse. I want to try raise funding to help cigarette addiction to those trying to give up in her memory,
