    Story

David Laporta, son, partner, promoter, and friend sadly passed away. on the 15th September.

He leaves behind a family, notably his mother Maria Nieves Laporta, and his partner and wonderful person Diana Shirley.

David's family has given permission to set up a JustGiving page so as a clubbing community, and as his friends, and colleagues, we can unite and show our love and affection for the man himself.

This fundraising effort is a way to say thank you to David for all of the good times he gave us, all of the memories, and as a way to say thank you to his family for raising such an inspiring person that has touch all our lives.

David was a person that spanned two cultures, Spanish heritage, but born in England, and was a true Londoner. He loved his family, he loved his friends, he loved life. He loved involving people in his life.

He worked for 17 years at Tesco, and more recently William Hill, which shaped him as a person, his work ethic and his personal skills which we all became so enthralled by. His working life earned him the respect and friendship of all who had the pleasure of working with him.

Music was his passion, and promoting and DJing music fitted his personality perfectly. It was a means by which to connect people, something that he was so passionate about.

Starting as a DJ and later as a promoter, the impact David had on the club scene, especially in London, was second to none. The music scene has lost someone passionate, driven, and someone with vision. Someone that made his mark across multiple genres.

From Afrobeat, Reggaetón, and his Latino nights Lokura where he DJ’d and promoted, and pioneered themed nights bringing rave and Ibiza production ethics to brand new audiences, through to his dedication in pushing Hard Dance, Hardstyle, and Hardcore with his Tsunami, Hardcore London, and Xtreme London nights, his energy and ideas made their mark. He helped so many aspiring DJs and producers with their first gigs. His music promoter career culminated in the superb Day Of The Dead event at XOYO with Darren Styles, Kutski, Andy Whitby, Cally, and his hero Hixxy, and included many of his residents and people who he put his belief into.

At the heart of all these brands, David built a family of promoters and artists to help push it forward. A true collaborator. He believed in everyone who he booked, and he wanted only the best for everyone that attended his events. A man of ambition, and a man with a kind and welcoming soul. His plans for the music he loved so much were big and bold. He was the man to bring people together to achieve his vision. A true loss to the club scene.

Given the sheer force of nature that David was, his energy, his determination, his drive, clarity and honesty in pushing the scene forward I am confident we can reach this target, and exceed it, and honour the man across the hard dance music scene, the Latin music scene, and of course all those he met on his personal professional life.

Further to the fundraising, and to help us reach our target to honour David, and in the absence of nightclubs being able to full open because of Coronavirus, we plan on undertaking a live stream event in his name likely timed for early November. All this is to give David an appropriate send-off. The live stream will use the power of music that he so enthusiastically brought into people's lives.

RIP David Laporta. Your life was led with meaning and purpose and we are all better people from having known you.
